What To Do After A Car Accident

What To Do After A Car Accident

Collisions are bound to happen. Even a fender bender can turn into a nightmare if you don’t know how to handle it.
Here is a simple list to help you in the event of an auto accident:

  1. Check for injuries. Check yourself and other passengers. If anyone is hurt, call 911. Tell them you have been involved in an accident and provide a detailed location.
  2. Move out of the way. Move out of oncoming traffic. Don’t leave the scene of the accident before speaking to a police officer.
  3. Call 911. If you haven’t called 911 already, call them and let them know you have been involved in an accident. They will ask for your exact location.
  4. Remain calm. Do not accept the blame or blame anyone. Wait for a police officer to arrive and determine who’s at fault. Do not argue with the other driver.
  5. Exchange information. Get the other driver’s information: name, telephone number, insurance company, policy number, driver’s license and tag number. Provide the other driver with your information as well.
  6. Take pictures. If possible, take pictures of the damage or point of impact to both cars.
  7. Call your insurance company. Call your auto insurance company and let them know what happened. Describe the facts in detail, and if there were any injuries. Follow their recommendations.
